9/9/2023 0 Comments Explain verizon moca cable![]() Then… the Ethernet cable currently stretching to the router’s original location could be reconnected to a router LAN port, to provide a network (LAN) connection for that room. (So same connection method, but different cable, and now sitting next to or very near the ONT.). Without knowing what Cat5+ and coax lines are available in your house, the one change that would “work” would be moving the router to the ONT location … and then directly connecting the router WAN via a Ethernet cable to the ONT. Why was the router located where it sits? Could it be relocated? Yeah, that sorta dead-ends the possibility of extending your router’s LAN over your coax right away, at least with the router where it’s currently located. ![]() Just feeling really burnt out on this any help, even a 'No that is not how MoCA works Verizon is lying to you.' would be extremely appreciated. It would be cheaper to get a low voltage tech and rewire the desired rooms with CAT6. Is there a configuration of all these devices that lets me turn the coax in the house into usable Ethernet? If not, is there a simple additional device that makes this situation work? The verizon tech came out, shrugged his shoulders, and swore that if I just drop 1,500 on Orbi equipment to plug in instead that this would surely work and did not even look at the inside of my house. There is a light that says 'MoCA' which does not flash. It is plugged into a wire that goes to a splitter that vanishes into my house. The ONT itself which I can access but which is also so precariously wired I have not taken it out to a position that I can tell a serial/product number. The wifi it broadcasts works, and connecting ethernet cables to it also gets internet.Ī coax port in every single room except the one with the router and ethernet port.Ī series of things Verizon has sent me that they swear will do the trick including 'MoCA Ethernet Adapter (Has coax, four ethernet ports', 'Wireless Network Extender (Has coax, two ethernet ports, will not connect to router or extend wifi)', two identical 'Fios Network adapter's (Has coax and four ethernet ports)'.Ī bunch of devices with no WiFi but ethernet ports that I don't want to stack on top of each other next to the router (Which is next to the fireplace because that's where the cable comes out of the wall). Router connects to ethernet port in wall, which presumable is connected to the ONT. The more time I spend on tech support with Verizon and the more time I spend researching, the more confused I get I'm to the point where I can't even figure out if other users are asking the same questions as I am when I do the subreddit search. u/RoweDent created this awesome resource on network theory u/tht1kidd_ has created a suggestion post regarding information everyone needs to provide when asking a question about their network There have been some excellent guides written in this sub, and we're always looking for more!
